State Governments distribute grant money for an ever increasing range of purposes. State grant money is available to claim right now and the American Grant Provider Directory will show you where you can obtain it.
Politicians realize their success and longevity in office is tied in a very large part, to the prosperity and growth in third community. Economic growth creates jobs, jobs generate tax revenue, taxes in turn can be used to finance social programs to help the less fortunate in our community. Tax revenues can also be used to further existing grant programs.
With the recent job losses in the US, economic development is forefront on the government's agenda. The government must ensure a stable economy to ensure adequate tax inflows. To add liquidity, the government grants money and professional assistance to individuals and small businesses. Small business accounts for a very large percentage of current and future job growth.
State Governments don't advertise grant programs very well and many don't advertise at all. Most people are unaware of the money, expertise and other resources available through their State Governments.
The main criteria for grant acceptance for State programs is residency. However, grant programs are available to businesses willing to relocate and employ people in the target State.
There are many types of grant money programs offered in each of the states, and new programs are being offered every year. If there currently is not a program that meets your needs, let agency officials and your state legislators know. If a particular need becomes evident, they may create a program for it. Remember, politicians want you to succeed because it is their best insurance at election time.
The following state programs offer specific programs and are provided for refernce purposes only. Please use the State quicklinks to locate state programs specific to your needs. (bottom of this page)

Selling your product or service to the Government Once you have improved your own business with grant money from the government, you should consider selling your product(s) or service(s) back to it. Federal and state governments purchase more products and services than any other business. The government not only is determined to help you improve your business, but it also will give you additional money to help get a contract with one or more of its agencies. Many Federal offices have special consultants whose only responsibility is to ensure that new and small businesses receive their share of the thousands of contracts available. Using Government Licenses is another way to get . a business successfully launched. Although the government has discovered thousands of projects resulting from Federally funded research projects, it is not in the business of marketing any of them itself. Consequently, government agencies are always receptive to private entrepreneurs willing to market a product or technology.
The following lists contain those organizations on the Federal and State level that can help you with licensing and selling information. GSA Business Service Center
The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) will assist you, as an individual or small business, in obtaining contracts. Throughout the United States, there are seven GSA offices that can tell you what government agencies would be interested in purchasing your product or service and how to process the contracting paperwork.
