These types of grants are awarded by wealthy foundations, corporations, and families, and usually have very specific qualifications, and are sometimes limited to certain states or geographic areas. Some are limited to persons with certain types of disabilities, medical or living problems, or other specific needs. Each foundation addresses particular needs based on their own fields of humanitarian interest.

personal needs are addressed by the foundations listed below.
